Everywhere in America has become a super-soldier war game zone… Yes?
(Washington Times) – ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Live-fire training exercises will continue through Wednesday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, despite some complaints from residents.
“Some of the same residents may hear small arms firing as the unit conducts personnel (mounted and dismounted) live-fire ranges,” officials wrote in a noise advisory Friday. “In addition, an increase in helicopter and unmanned aircraft system flights will occur during this period.”
Officials are preparing soldiers for an April visit to the Joint Readiness Training Center in Polk, La., and weapon fire will continue around the clock to duplicate what soldiers will see there, he said.
“There’s no set time for when these fire missions take place,” Hallmark said. “We’re basically trying to replicate here what we’ll see there – if our troops request fire support at 4 in the morning, then that’s what we’ll do.”
The Army said it’s aware of residents’ concerns, and invited people to call the base’s main number with comments: 907-552-1110.
