(KTVU) –  OAKLAND, Calif. — A massive law enforcement sweep was underway in Oakland Wednesday, with nine people having reportedly been detained an hour after it was first reported.

FBI agents, local police SWAT and the California Highway Patrol were targeting multiple locations.

Several streets were closed down in West Oakland during the sweeps. Portions of Seventh and Eighth streets were shut down in the area for at least 90 minutes and while helicopters circled overhead.

The police barricades were reportedly lifted just before 10:20 p.m.

It appeared to be an extensive operation with many officers involved.

There were agents carrying out actions in numerous parts of the city Wednesday night.

As of 9 p.m., KTVU learned that nine people had been detained.

An hour later, a separate sweep involving San Leandro Police reportedly resulted in a standoff near the intersection of E. 22 Street and 14th Avenue.

Oakland Police and other agencies involved told KTVU that the participating departments were not at liberty to discuss what the action concerned.

However, those agencies would be able to release details when the sweep was over.

OAKLAND, Calif. —

The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Oakland  police concluded a series of Bay Area raids early Thursday, arresting several suspects and seizing illegal drugs and weapons linked to violence in Oakland’s Acorn Housing Project.

The raids took place in Oakland, Hayward, San Leandro and Antioch, according to Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan.

“This was the result of a very long and protracted … complicated investigation with the FBI to address gang and gun violence in the Acorn Housing Project,” he told KTVU. “Five people were arrested including one juvenile. We recovered four weapons and quantities of illegal drugs.” Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said 13 of the 16 raids were executed within Oakland. The search warrants led to multiple arrests as well as the recovery of weapons and narcotics, according to Watson. Helicopters circled overhead as portions of Seventh and Eighth streets were shut down for at least 90 minutes on Wednesday night. Officers wore body armor and helmets and were armed with automatic weapons as they were deployed in West Oakland. The operation concluded shortly after 1:00 a.m. with no injuries or use of force reported, Watson said.
